Amanda Kaster
About Me Hey,
I'm Amanda Kaster. I'm an almost sophomore here at Wilkes,
double-majoring in History and English, with a focus in writing, and as
I like to say, I'm from the world, rather than any specific ''hometown.''
My father is in my military, so I've been blessed with the opportunity
to live in a plethora of amazing places, including Germany and Belgium,
as well as travel throughout Europe, to more than fourteen different
countries. My family is essential to my survival and wellbeing,
especially since they have been the one constant group of people who
have always been there for me no matter where I've been. I absolutely
adore traveling (my dream is to travel to every country before I die);
baseball (Go Twins!); reading books; hanging out with friends; my
puppy, Chief; skiing; running; cooking; volunteering; and watching my
all time favorite TV show, Gilmore Girls.
How Did you First Hear of Wilkes Christian Fellowship Club?
I
actually first heard about Christian Fellowship Club from my father,
because one of his cadets was a co-president, and he was very anxious
for me to become apart of a group that would enable me to further my
faith. I was a little hesitant because I believed that joining a club
my dad desired me to join removed the independence I sought to
experience during college. However, when Michelle and I agreed on Club
Day to sign up, little did I know that I would be joining into an
amazing group of people whose focus was on praising God. I've been
attending every since.
With you Being a Freshmen this year, How has CFC helped your transition into college?
CFC has
tremendously assisted me in not only making friends within a fantastic
group of people, which has made my life so much easier and enjoyable,
but in addition, has allowed me to become a stronger college student,
providing me with information and insight to take every stressful
occurrence one step at a time, knowing full well that God is there
along the way. At first transitioning from being around my supportive
family to being essentially alone to fend for myself proved difficult,
but after joining CFC, I felt as though no matter what, God would be
there to set me straight and assist me through anything- that is
something I never hope to remove from me.
What type of career are you looking to get into with your dual History and English major?
If
anything, I would love to be a writer or even a journalist, which is
why I chose to concentrate in both History and English. History and
English majors are often said to have superb analytical skills so I
assumed that it would provide me with the perfect foundation to perfect
my writing and develop my expertise. I am also interested in working
for the government (the next Barack Obama in female form :)
because I am fascinated by our political system and directly making a
difference. It would be a dream come true, however, to collaborate or
even work directly with the United Nations, especially as apart of a
nongovernmental organization (NGO) or even acting as a representative
for our nation, especially concerning the issue of Darfur and what the
world needs to do in order to save the lives of hundreds of thousands
of innocent people.
Do you have any specific spiritual goals for the next 3 years of college?
Joining
CFC was a huge step for me in terms of getting out of my comfort zone
and becoming apart of something greater than myself, so for the next
three years while I am in college, I would like to continue my walk
with God and further develop a relationship with Him. I, personally,
have the desire to make my voice known to remove my weakness of being
so very shy, so I hope to be able to speak out and express my faith to
those around me, as well as gain further perspective from others who
are apart of CFC. I also hope to be apart of the Bear Creek Camp summer
program at least once in the duration of my college career in order to
teach youth about the word of God as well as become a stronger
Christian and ultimately learn to appreciate the blessings God has
presented all around me.
I hear you had some interesting ski trips this past winter, care to elaborate?
Oh yes!
Well since I had never been skiing before in the states, Michelle and I
decided to go skiing for day, and it turned out to be phenomenal. I
adore the adrenal rush you receive while skiing, and I had never
believed that skiing outside of Germany would have been so incredible,
so we had a good time. But a few black diamonds later, we were
seriously worn out. I must say, though, watching Michelle wipe out
twice in the most dramatic ways ever proved to be the most hilarious
part of our trip! That, as well as learning why skiing is far more
superb than snowboarding, thanks to a guy we sat by on the lift: "It's
not fun when you fall down snowboarding. At least when you fall down
skiing, you have a ton of pieces of you everywhere, like a yard sale!"
