well lets take a look at why we need a God in the bible.
Mike Two Tuesdays ago we talked about David being called up in
serving God, and his climb up the roller coaster with defeating Goliath, and
all the blessings that came from following God's will.He was on the top of the
hill Last Tuesday we talked his sin with Bathsheba and his
feeling of separation from God Now in the rest of Chapter 12 we have David's repentance to
God for his sin.
Read 2nd Samuel 12:18-25 Andy The king before David was king Saul.anyone know the story
of Saul's service?
He was chosen by God, asked to do a simple mission for God
and he decided to change the plans a little bit.after this he did not really
repent, but rather he tried to justify his decision.
David Repented! Do
you realize how long 7 days of mourning and fasting is with his face on the
ground?
Then when his baby died, He went straight to the temple and
worshiped God.
Mike Read 1st Samuel 15:19-22 Saul didn't fully understand God's view point so he tried to
alter it into the way he thought was best.
The difference between Saul and David: Repentance:
Both sinned. David was an adulterer and murderer (2S.11).
The difference: After David committed adultery with
Bathsheba and arranged to have Uriah killed, the prophet Nathan confronted him
with his sins, and David didn't excuse himself, as Saul had done when he spared
the best of the Amalekite livestock against God's will (1S.15:3, 9). When David
was confronted with his adultery and murder, his answer was simple and
straightforward: "I have sinned against the Lord" (2S.12:13). Repentance is
the greatest difference!. Although David sinned, he always repented... David
sinned as others kings did, but he cried out as no other king did!. Repentance
is the greatest lesson of the books of Samuel.
Andy David Knew who God was!!
David knew he needed a savior from his sinful self, that's why he needed
a God!!
- Everyone
Sins! 1 John 1:8-10 " 8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and
the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he
is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned,
we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
- Bring
it back to the casting crowns concert idea. With the lead singer, mark, making a
reference to his lowest of spiritual lows being a 3 day abscense from
God's word. How crazy is that? Some spiritual low right? Do you think that he is better than
us? Do you think that he has some
special gifts and talents that we don't have? Actually he has a very prominent
learning disability, he's dyslectic.
We don't need special gifts, the fact that we are in college
already shows we have good comprehension skills.
What he does to reach this level is a continual feeding in heavenly
things, prayer, scripture, fasting.
Continually seeking God.
- FEED
YOURSELVES.read psalm 119. How can
a young man keep pure? By living according to your word. How clear is
that! Remain in me and I will
remain in you. John 15: 1-11
- Take
it back to that time I read Mere Christianity to everyone on page 141 of the book. CS Lewis makes a point to
feed yourselves with righteousness.
Armor of God, Ephesians 2 We will loose track if we don't feed
ourselves spiritual food. Also see
Ephesians chap 4? The section that talked about spiritual food and
elementary fundamentals of being a Christian.
- Mere
Christianity pg 141. The first step is to recognize the fact that your
moods change. The next is to make
sure that, if you have once accepted Christianity, then some of its main
doctrines shall be deliberately held before your mind for some tine every
day. That is why daily prayers and
religious readings and church going are necessary parts of the Christian
Life. We have to be continually
reminded of what we believe.
Neither this belief nor any other will automatically remain alive
in the mind. It must be fed. And as a matter of fact, if you examined
a hundred people who had lost their faith in Christianity, I wonder how many
of them would turn out to have been reasoned out of it b y honest
argument? Do not most people simply
drift away?
- The
most single important fact to take away from this mini series.God wants
you to delight in Him. When we do
that, He will guide us and feed us our spiritual food that we need to
survive this world. Nothing else
can fulfill that void in our hearts.
Take all of your spiritual knowledge that you have been fed and
turn it in to wisdom! I heard a
great message on this once about how we cry out to God.Feed me! Feed me your word oh Lord! Then of course He does, and then we in a
situation with the newly found knowledge that God gave us and we forget
it..what good is that? Develop the
knowledge into wisdom in life. Knowledge
and Wisdom are not the same thing
Getting out of the Rut of the rollercoaster Seeking and understanding God and forgiveness Pine Cove analogy about telling kids who God is....because
something bad will happen and they need to know where to turn.
This is the GOSPEL.we will fail because we were born into a
world of sin, we need a savior! Thanks
be to God for his son Jesus Christ. How
a perfect man would die for the sinful...
Peter's faith in the book of John. the last conversation with
Christ where he finally understood this!!! He can't pass the test, but God
forgives him so move on and get back in the boat and try again.
We could have put this mini-series into 1 week, we know that, but we
wanted it to stick in!
Theme of CFC... Mathew 13: 3-9 The parable of the Sower
Mark 14: 38 Keep watching and praying that you do not fall
into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Who are we to question God's plan for salvation and love??? Week 3 Roller Coaster
