New Business 1) Internet Update: The internet has been slow lately, as most everyone has noticed. The school is asking everyone to limit file sharing to the hours between 10pm and 7am. File sharing by only a handful of people on campus can use up a majority of the bandwidth (this file sharing includes programs such as Morpheus, Kazaa, and others). This voluntary restriction will allow the faculty, staff, and students to get essential work done during business hours. By voluntarily limiting file sharing, this will prevent the University from having to force restrictions on file sharing. It is not the desire of the ITS department to block any sites or peer to peer sharing, but it will be done if necessary. Part of the problem is also being caused by viruses, which the school is trying to take care of. Assessments will be taking place periodically throughout the year, starting in November. These assessments will allow the ITS department to restructure the network to allow it to perform better. These changes will probably begin to take place during the Christmas break. The main file sharing problem occurs when people on campus allow other people to upload off them; this is what uses the most bandwidth.
2) APhA Diabetes Walk: APhA will be sponsoring Operation Diabetes, and have set a goal to raise $10,000 for the American Diabetes Association. They will be having a 5K walk/run on April 24th, which will start in Kirby Park and end at Wilkes. There will be a health fair after the walk, possibly in the Student Center or Martz. This also falls on the day of Block Party, but the roads being closed will probably not interfere with the operations. Mudd made a motion to donate $500 to the walk and Holly seconded. Motion passes 16-0-10.
3) Block Party: This year Block Party is a joint event between SG and WUPB. The plans are to make it a bigger event than it has been in past years. They will be trying to get more well-known bands, food vendors, and inflatables. Food from the vendors will most likely be offered to students at a reduced price (with a Wilkes ID), with SG and WUPB incurring the remainder of the cost. Anyone who would like to get involved in the planning of Block Party can attend WUPB meetings weekly at 11:30.
4) Help for fire victims: Last week there was fire on West River Street, which affected four Wilkes students. Two years ago there was a similar situation, and SG helped the victims with gift certificates. Kelly made a motion to give the victims gift certificates for $100 each, and Rob seconded. Motion passed 21-0-4.

Academic Committees ⌂ Academic Standards⌂ Curriculum ⌂ Concert & Lecture ⌂ Library ⌂ SLRP ⌂ Public Safety ⌂ Provost ⌂ TREC met today. They give away awards every year, but usually do not get many nominations from students and are looking for ways to get students to participate. Ideas included better advertising, having students sit at a ballot box, and offering an incentive such as a dinner for all the students who nominated professors.
